The Batman: The Caped Crusader’s return for this new decade

 

Another decade, another Batman movie to signal fans of the billionaire superhero back to cinemas for another take on DC Comics' iconic character. Robert Pattison (Twilight, Tenet) begins his journey as the new Batman / Bruce Wayne from 4th March at cinemas nationwide.

Within the Egyptian themed Sunway Pyramid floors of Sunway’s signature mall, comes one of many exhibits that feature contents and snippets of The Batman movie located on Ground Floor adjacent to the main "pyramid" entrance. Mall shoppers can visit The Batman Experience before docking themselves in TGV Cinemas upstairs to catch the 3-hour long movie.

It’s not a Batman exhibit without an archive of Batmans of the past, brought to you by the Batman Fans Malaysia (BFM) people, and their collections of figures and associated CDs of each Batman’s respective movies.

But if a history lesson of the past is not what you’re here for, then perhaps the exhibit’s attractions of the present day Batman will interest you. This includes a wayang kulit / shadow puppet edition of Pattinson's Batman by the artists at Fusion Wayang Kulit.

But most notably of all, is the activity that awaits visitors with time to spare, as the exhibit itself welcomes attendees to solve the mysterious puzzles within itself.

All this free entry activity, at no extra cost with no strings attached. The only rule is to solve the riddle, and be paid with a free beverage at the counter.

It’s like being the Batman detective without needing a prerequisite of being a billionaire...

Starts with a door of green text, which hides a question within. What does this mysterious riddle unveil? That is for you, the person reading this, to uncover the truth from.

Mystery solving aside, for folks interested to suit up like the Batman, a contest of cosplay awaits those who dare enter combat via costume.

The DC Superhero Cosplay Competition to be held at Sunway Pyramid this coming March 13th welcomes anyone’s inner DC superhero cosplay to fly free for the contest, with Online Registration open until 9 March for contestants.

Upto RM10,000 worth of prizes to be won including Sunway Pals points (cash value for purchases at Sunway Malls) & official Batman merchandise. Click here for the Registration Form.

If cosplay isn’t your cup of coffee, there is still the Sony Centre section of the exhibit, where Playstation Batman videogame allow you to virtually don the cowl of the Dark Knight investigating Arkham Asylum.

Alongside are escape-room like activities and retail section selling DC themed merchandise to take home as a souvenir. 

While The Batman screens in cinemas, why not visit Sunway Pyramid for the occasion as well? It’s open until 20 March, 2022.

The Batman movie of the 2022 features the Caped Crusader’s venture into Gotham City’s underworld in pursuit of a sadistic killer with their cryptic clues. As the trail to the perpetrator becomes clearer, he must form new partnerships to unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the city’s long running abuses of power.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson at Batman / Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD's James Gordon, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.

Geek-gasm at the Avenue K Collectors Festival

Attention fellow Geek guys & gals!

Avenue K shopping mall in downtown Kuala Lumpur is now hosting a Collectors Festival on their ground floor concourse until 10 May 2017. The Avenue K Collectors Festival (AKCF) is showcasing premium collectibles by Prime 1 Studio. This Japanese company founded in 2012 manufacturers limited edition statues from pop culture franchises such as DC, Marvel, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more. Products by Prime 1 Studio is distributed locally by Shioktoys Collectibles who have brought out some of their best works to showcase at AKCF.

AKCF also offers activities for mall shoppers with the Super-Agent Challenge. Shoppers with minimum spend of RM50 from any shops in Avenue K will be entitled to take the NERF blaster test in attempt to qualify. As Outpost Productions will be assisting with the Cosplay Competition, we wish to highlight on the following participation criteria:

• Each contestant will be required to showcase themselves in 3 cosplay poses and offered up to 2 minutes to perform a skit. Each contestant may be assisted by up to 2 helpers in their skit. The skits should not contain elements potentially offensive to local society and refrain from issues relating to race, religion or politics.
• Judges will score contestants based on costume quality and cosplay performance (not skit, no score. Cosplay representative of any character displayed by Prime 1 Studio at AKCF may be awarded bonus score.
• Props resembling weapons need to be submitted for inspection during check-in. Real-world guns are not encouraged and if used nozzle must be capped off.
• No cosplayer changing rooms are provided by the venue. Kindly prepare to be in costume before arriving at the mall or make use of the public restrooms as necessary (upper levels less trafficked).

Shoppers who frequent Avenue K may also be aware there is a rooftop terrace with spectacular view of KLCC Twin Towers. Specially for cosplayers this Sunday 7 May, the rooftop terrace will be open between 12pm noon to 6pm for photo shoot opportunities with these icons of Kuala Lumpur. Great of heroic posing but no superhero landings please!

The LEGO Batman Movie: Living in Bruce Wayne's Basement

After successfully saving their kind from the evil President Business in The LEGO Movie 3 years ago, the producers thought it would be a good idea to make another movie to tell the hero's tale, of how he's not just an ordinary guy but an orphaned minifig, growing up alone with no mentor. Enter the LEGO Batman Movie.

Some say Batman's a vain and selfish vigilante who longs nothing more than his vanity. And the fact that Bruce Wayne lives in his attic gives him extra flare and bragging rights and ego. Check out the trailer below: 

However, with the addition of his adopted son (while drunk at a gala), Dick Grayson, Batman has to deal not only with crime & the Joker, but an overly enthusiastic, excited and loud sidekick who looks up to Batman as his dad and care giver. Talk about saving the world AND yourself from going BAT-$#!+ crazy!

The Outpost Movie Recon Team (M.R.T) has found many goodies worth checking out if you're a fan of both LEGO & Batman (Duh!). First check out the official LEGO toys:

LEGO seems to have gone all-out releasing at least 13 building sets for this movie! Batman himself gets a playset of the Batcave (70909, RRP RM529.90) and a new Batmobile (70905, RRP RM299.90) plus what looks like a new flying machine called the Bat-Scuttler which looks like a mecha bat (70908, RRP 399.90).

Will this Batmobile be the next fan favourite?

Each of his villains like Joker, Penguin, Clayface, etc. receive their own building sets, usually based on a vehicle. They also come together in a massive playset of the Arkham Asylum (70912, RM799.90) available exclusively from Toys R Us in Malaysia.

LEGO Batman also offers a series of blind-pack mini-figs with 20 variants of the cute characters to collect. However they are priced quite significantly higher at RM19.90 per pack compared to RM12.90 for the regular series. Happy "tikam"!

Whilst the Outpost M.R.T. does not endorse any particular retailer, if you are going to buy these toys anyway then consider doing so at the official LEGO Batman Movie Event now on at Mid Valley Megamall, East Atrium.

Buying directly at this event will entitle to a number of LEGO freebies depending on the amount spent. Firstly any purchase of of a LEGO Batman set will receive a sorta black flying vehicle inspired by the Dark Knight. We kinda think it looks like a MyVi with wings! However an assembly guide is not included with the bricks as purchasers seem to be encouraged to build them on-the-spot referring to laminated instructions (not to be removed).

Purchases over RM150 then receive an exclusive polybag (30523) of The Joker Battle Training. In addition, purchases over RM200 of any LEGO product receives a Limited Edition Year of the Rooster building set (40234). Considering the price of LEGO nowadays, it doesn't take more than 1 or 2 sets to exceed the threshold to receive all 3 of these goodies FREE! Toys R Us members will also collect points for their purchases.

Anyway if LEGO is too pricey for the wallet, try winning some instead from these online contests by our local cinemas. Firstly GSC Cinemas has a fairly straightforward contest for their online members offering polybagged mini-figs, kids tshirts and more:

There will also be a "pop-up" store at GSC Pavilion KL this weekend from 9 February near the cinema.

Both MMcineplexes and Premium-X Cinema is offering similar merchandise up for grabs on their respective social media channels:

Over at MBO Cinemas, they are offering a LEGO Batman edition card for their All-Star membership (free). They are also encouraging cosplay of LEGO Batman movie characters and giving away building sets for submissions posted to Instagram. Good luck with that since we have hardly seen any LEGO cosplay locally!

The movie building sets are displayed to woo kids to empty their parents' wallets, or "poison" adults fans of LEGO. Courtesy of LOM LEGO User Group Malaysia, these sets have been setup as a fantastic action diorama with the respective movie vehicles and mini-figs arranged in action.

The Master Builders has even stretched their creativity to assembling 25 custom-build mini-dioramas depicting all forms of LEGO Batman inspired setups. Here's a only a sampling of the LEGO builds and do go see for yourselves the rest. Some are really LOL scenes!
